The unstoppable “Captain Marvel” was definitely rising high in its worldwide box office debut this weekend.
Marvel Studios’ latest superhero film made an estimated $455 million globally including an $89 million opening in China.
Disney’s Marvel Studios went beyond the expectation that the movie starring Brie Larson will only bring in about $130 million in North America, when it brought in an estimated $153 million.
“Captain Marvel” was directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck making it the first Marvel movie to be directed by a female and also feature a female superhero in the lead.
The film garnered an “A” CinemaScore from audiences and a 79% score on review site Rotten Tomatoes.
Nearly half, or 45%, of the “Captain Marvel” audience this weekend was female.
