Finding Dory passes the 1 Billion dollar mark

Finding Dory has become the fifth highest-grossing animated film in cinema history after hitting the $1 billion mark.

The family movie, which also stars Ellen DeGeneres, Albert Brooks, Ed O’Neill, Ty Burrell, and Diane Keaton, topped the North American box office with $136.2 million upon its release and became the second biggest June opening of all time, behind Jurassic World.

It has since raked in $485 million in North America, making it the highest-grossing domestic release of 2016 to date.

Disney have been bringing the hits all year – three other releases in the past 12 months have also surpassed $1 billion in takings: Captain America: Civil War, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Zootopia.
