It has been a tough couple weeks for Miley Cyrus, but she came out and slayed her first performance of Slide Away at the VMAs Monday night and there wasn’t a dry eye in the crowd. And we all got to know and love her song “Slide Away” which was clearly about the break up with Liam Hemsworth. It doesn’t get more obvious than her lyrics “Move on, we’re not seventeen / I’m not who I used to be / You say that everything changed / You’re right, we’re grown now.” And at the VMA’s we got to see her sing her new song live for the first time in a raw and very emotional performance.
One fan tweeted saying “Today marks exactly SIX YEARS ago since @mileycyrus’ controversial, yet iconic & pop culture defining, performance at the 2013 MTV VMAs. The performance received over 300K tweets a minute & went viral all across the globe. A moment in pop culture history no one will EVER forget.” But this year’s performance couldn’t have been more different. The whole performance was shot in black in and white with only Miley at a microphone and a string quartet accompanying her on stage. No twerking, no scandals, just pure, touching music. Miley truly has come such a long way
